Hansel again. Gretel again. The Brothers Grimm, again. Again, and again, for as long as there are children abandoned, exploited and violated. For as long as we leave them alone with their worries, their fears, without helping them to grow up, to be independent. Sure, we don’t abandon them in the woods nowadays. But they risk just as much being alone, in front of the TV screen or the Playstation. And while the Gingerbread House may have turned into McDonalds, that’s no fault of our children’s imagination. Once again a classic fairytale, with the timeless feelings of fear and bewilderment, anxiety and turmoil. Once again, as long as there are artists like Lorenzo Mattotti who, with a simple brushstroke, are capable of reviving those feelings and emotions.
